This 'n That Thursdays: Spooky Foods for Halloween

From The Holistic Ingredient.

For me, October is all about Halloween, and most of my posts for the month focus on this holiday.  Today I thought it would be fun to look at spooky foods, those dishes prepared with frightful fun in mind!  I did try to avoid the truly gross and/or gruesome creations, focusing instead on the creepy but still tasty-looking dishes.  Below are a few images with links to recipes should you decide to serve up some scares with your meals this month:

1) Shrunken Head Punch

2) Scary Spider Deviled Eggs

3) Mummy Meatloaves

4) Mashed Potato Ghosts/Puréed Squash Pumpkins

5) Eyeball Caprese Salad

6) Screaming Fougasse Bread (try this easy fougasse recipe on Youtube)

7) Ghost Pizza

8) Bloody Witch Fingers

9) Snake Cake

That last creation is truly the stuff of nightmares for all of you ophidiophobes out there, and not one that you will be making unless you are a professional baker (and yes, it truly is just a cake!).  However, with just a little imagination, you should have no problem recreating most of the other foods shown.  Or you could get really creative and think up your own ways to add a food fright factor to your Halloween festivities!

This Galapagos tortoise is about to enjoy a taste of Halloween!
