This 'n That Thursdays: Chicken Diapers

A rather elaborate chicken diaper (from The Outline).

Just when I thought I had seen it all and that nothing could surprise me anymore, along come chicken diapers!  Yes, you read that correctly.  Apparently chickens have become so popular in non-rural areas that many owners consider them to be pets, to the point of wanting to bring them into the house for a little quality time with the family.  While not impossible, it is extremely difficult to housebreak a chicken, so with a little ingenuity and some sewing skills, chicken diapers were invented.  They are available from several purveyors, and come in a few different forms, from eco-friendly washable and reusable diapers to simple ones that need to be lined with paper towels which are changed as needed.  Chicken diapers have become so successful that some makers are now offering chicken dresses, which have no function other than to look, um, interesting:

Isn't she pretty in pink (from The Outline)?

Fortunately for us, we live in the country and our single hen roams freely in the barn and pasture (she does stay on the barn side of the fence to avoid our two dogs, which is her safest option since the dogs have decided that critter yard patrol is their job).  Our Dixie Chick will never know the dubious joys of wearing a chicken diaper, because she will not be coming into the house.  And I think she is just fine with that option!

Our forever diaper-free Dixie Chick!
