Okay, let's face it -- while most of us might prefer a family Christmas like the one shown in the top photo above, chances are we are going to get some (hopefully less disastrous) variation of the bottom photo scene! So I say let's dress for success by sticking with easy and casual clothes that can beautifully withstand any unexpected events. Below are three outfits that can travel to a relative's house, tackle all activities, and still look good for the holiday family photo (unless, of course, your annual holiday tradition includes a rousing game of tackle football, in which case you are on your own!):
Clockwise from top left; O'Connell's Clothing Women's Scottish Shetland Wool Fair Isle Cardigan in Loden 2; Newegg Yellow Gold Christmas Tree Charm with Cable Chain Necklace; Newegg Lug RFID Windjammer Everyday Tote in Olive Green; Portland Boot Company Women's Zinnia Zip Ankle Boots in Green; Coldwater Creek Knit Denim Straight-Leg Jeans in Cypress; Vermont Gear Woolrich Women's Laureldale LS T-Shirt in Ecru. |
Lots of holiday green plus a nice warm wool sweater if your climate is on the frigid side.
Clockwise from top left: Coldwater Creek Winter Birds Cardigan; Wildlife Wonders Bamboo Jewelry Cardinal Cloisonne Small Necklace; Frye Paige Leather Tote in Dark Brown; Portland Boot Company Women's Zinnia Zip Ankle Boots in Brown; Coldwater Creek Knit Denim Straight-Leg Jeans in Dover Red; Coldwater Creek Silk/Cotton Mockneck in Brown. |
Christmas red is paired with earthy chocolate brown, based on the colors from the lovely lightweight cardigan perfectly suited for milder temperatures.
Clockwise from top left: Vermont Gear Woolrich Women's Snowfall Valley Snowflake Cardigan in Stoneware; Kay Jewelers Diamond Snowflake Pendant Round-Cut Sterling Silver; Longchamp 'Large le Pliage' Tote in Red Garance; Portland Boot Company Women's Zinnia Zip Ankle Boots in Grey; Coldwater Creek Knit Denim Straight-Leg Jeans in Shell Grey; L.L. Bean Women's Interlock Turtleneck in Dark Cranberry. |
This time red is paired with grey, which seems to be a popular color combination this holiday season.

Just because you can't predict when holiday disasters will strike does not mean you can't look fabulous while dealing with them! Next week I will take the casual look one step further by adding even more of a holiday theme to the mix (stopping just short of ugly sweater territory, I promise!).
