This 'n That Thursdays: Get Creative with Candy Cane Christmas Crafts

From Party City

The arrival of candy canes in stores is one of the sure signs that Christmas is upon us.  While I love the look of these striped confections I am not a fan of the taste.  However, with a little ingenuity it is possible to create a variety of candy cane craft projects.  Take a look at some of the possibilities:

From DIY Christmas Decorations

1) A roll of ribbon, a box of candy canes, and some removable hooks will yield a quick and festive window display.

From For Creative Juice

2) Use two-sided tape to attach candy canes to a cylindrical vase, add a lush red ribbon, and you have created a Christmasy container for a holiday bouquet (see instructions here).

From The Berry

3) Or hot glue candy canes together in a wreath shape, attach a flat ornament to the center, and hang with a ribbon - these wreaths are so easy you could make several (see instructions here)!

From Industrious Justice

4) Keep working that glue gun to fasten three mini candy canes together for cute little place card holders (instructions at image link).

From DIY Candy

5) With just a little bit of effort, create a trio of candy cane-lined Santa hat topiaries (instructions at image link)!

6) Admittedly this candy cane Christmas tree will require some effort (find directions here), but you could always create a smaller and easier version by gluing candy canes to a styrofoam cone.

7) This container is really just the same as the vase described earlier, only used as a pillar candle holder instead.

From Pizzazzerie

8) For this adorable peppermint cupcake stand, you will have to bake some peppermint candies to form the flat disk, then glue candy canes together as was done for the place card holders to make the stand, but it is so worth the effort (see directions at image link)!

9) My favorite way to use candy canes is one of the simplest - just hang them on your Christmas tree!

10) And easiest of all would be to cluster some candy canes in a container, set them out, and enjoy the festive look in no time!

Just in case you are like me and never know what to do with candy canes, you now have some options that do not involve eating them.  Of course, if you love peppermint, there are scads of recipes out there to help you use up candy canes when you can no longer face eating them as is.  After all, even the most ardent of candy cane lovers can only consume so many of these minty treats before suffering from Christmas candy overload!
